Curriculum integration ideas for Kindergarten

Feelings, emotions, expressions: there are a variety of emotions expressed throughout the book.  Have students identify the different expressions and related emotions, and how these are tied to the different colors.

Colors: have students identify the different colors found throughout the book, including primary and secondary colors.

Reading/Retelling: have students retell the different colors in the book.  Do they feel the same way about blue?  How about red?  What colors are missing from the book?  What emotions do they associate with those colors?

Read Aloud suggestions:      My many colored day (talks about patterns with colors)

Today I feel silly (talks about moods, feelings, emotions)

Communities: have students identify the different people in the story - who are they?  Do they have this person in their life?  Does this person ever feel that way?

Writing: have students write about their favorite color.  How does it make them feel?  How does a certain color make them feel?  How do they feel a certain day?

Math: have students count the number of colors in the book.  Have students sort & group items based upon their color.

Music: have students listen to different types of music.  What color do they think of when they hear that type of music?
