Here are some ways that you can use One Book One School in your classroom. I know I am supposed to put this on the wiki page but I thought an email would be a sure way that everyone would see this.
2nd grade is going to do a color of the day. Students can wear the color.
Monday- Blue
Tuesday- Green (St. Patrick's Day)
Wednesday-Red
Thursday- Yellow
Friday- Favorite color
You can do a poem/song each day to go along with the color of the day. Parents can send a colorful/healthy snack each day. (Ex. blue day-blueberries, Green-grapes, Red- strawberries, Yellow- bananas.) You could extend that to be a lesson on healthy eating.
Reading/writing
Students can draw a name of a student in the class to create another page of the book. So they are writing about someone else and the color they would be.
They can act out the pages of the book in pairs.
Read When Sophie Gets Angry.. Really Really Angry and tie that in with colors and feelings.
Also, A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni is a good color/feeling book.
Students can write color poems, feeling poems, acrostic poems.
Make Inferences from the pictures in the book or play charades were each student acts out feelings and the class infers the feeling.
Math
Graphing- favorite color/feeling/fruit (venn diagrams, pictograph, bar graph..)
Color patterns
Word problems about the blues
Science/Art
Seperating/mixing colors
Social Studies- Compare your family to the family in the book. Give your family a new name (ex. the Greens, the Blues, the Yellows...) tell why your family is that color.
Music- Listen to different types of music and talk about how they make you feel
Sing color songs/raps
Make different sounds and discuss how they make you feel
Just some ideas I thought I'd Share,
